The Second Time Around

When we organized the first San Pablo Comics Festival we were neophytes...in the worst possible way. We had no experiences whatsoever in organizing an event.

We literally just said one day, “let’s organize a festival about comics” and thus the first Festival was conceived.

It was a lot of fun really but we had no idea what we were doing. The only thing that was really going for us at the time was sheer bullheadedness. If we say we were going to get it done, come hell or high water (barring acts of God), by golly we were going to get it done...or die laughing.

Laughter definitely made organizing the first Festival easier.

We lost money in the first Festival but it was never conceptualized as a money making activity. The San Pablo Comics Festival was conceptualized to push our advocacy for furthering awareness of the rich history of Philippine comic books and help bring about its revival.

Now, six years later, we’re back once again.

We’re a little bit wiser, definitely more experience, and a whole lot older.

We should do better this time around.

The Venue: Lions Club of San Pablo

The group went to check out the venue yesterday so we could better plan the layout.

This is a familiar location to San Pablo City residents. If you ask anybody "where is Lion's Club, Sampalok Lake?" everybody will be able to tell you where it is. It's overlooking Sampalok Lake, and is located just beside the huge long stairs.

At the venue.

Taking some measurements.

Manix at the San Pablo Comics Festival

What Jonas said. Let me reiterate, as this is a matter of earthshaking significance!

Cartoonist Manix Abrera, who we in the Komikero Artists Group fondly (and passionately) call "The Great Manix Abrera", will be a special guest at our Comics Festival this December. This is confirmed!

Manix is one of the country's most promising cartoonists through his immensely popular Kikomachine Komix serialized at the Philippine Daily Inquirer, and the just published groundbreaking graphic novel "12" published by Visprint.

Komikero Johnny Danganan manhandles Manix. Click image to embiggen.

This is your chance to meet Manix and have your comix signed! But please, no man-handling! :)
